Google has been sued in the U.S. for allegedly violating users’ privacy. According to a class-action complaint filed in the federal court in San Jose, California, the company is accused of illegally monitoring and processing users’ communications on Gmail, Chat, and Meet through its AI assistant, “Gemini.”
Court documents indicate that since October 2025, Google automatically enabled this feature across all accounts without users’ explicit consent. The plaintiffs claim that the company buried the relevant settings deep within menus, making it technically difficult to disable and leaving users with no real choice.
The lawsuit emphasizes that this practice allegedly allowed sensitive financial, medical, religious, and other personal data to be analyzed by AI without users’ knowledge. The plaintiffs view Google’s actions as an infringement on users’ privacy rights and a gross violation of California’s privacy laws.
