According to a statement submitted to the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP), Turkcell will invest $1 billion in the “Google Cloud Data Center” to be established in Turkey as part of its strategic partnership with Google Cloud. This investment is expected to more than double Turkcell’s data center capacity and increase revenue from cloud services sixfold in dollar terms.
Under the agreement, Turkcell will provide all necessary infrastructure for the new center, scheduled to become operational in 2028-2029, and expand its existing data center network. The center will consist of three or more zones and is expected to serve as a key milestone in Turkey’s digital transformation.
Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian noted that the agreement is the result of approximately 2.5 years of preparation and shared details about the hyper-scale cloud infrastructure: “The center in Turkey will be part of Google Cloud’s global network of 42 regions. It will provide high-performance computing, advanced storage, cybersecurity, and AI-powered data analytics services.”
Turkcell CEO Ali Taha Koç commented on the partnership: “Today, we are opening a new chapter in Turkey’s digital journey. By combining Google Cloud’s global expertise with Turkcell’s robust infrastructure, we are establishing the country’s first hyper-scale cloud region.”
Koç also emphasized that the Google Cloud Data Center will fully comply with Turkey’s data protection regulations. The new center is expected to boost Turkey’s digital ecosystem, enhance productivity in both public and private sectors, and position the country as a regional hub for AI and data innovation.
