A $1.6 billion lawsuit has been filed against Apple

Justin Gutmann, an Englishman living in England, filed a lawsuit against the world-famous company on behalf of about 24 million iPhone users. Gutmann is seeking a total of $1.6 billion in damages from Apple. He claims that Apple hides battery problems in some phone models by "mitigating" them with software updates and installing a power management tool that limits performance.

However, Apple has said the claim is "baseless" and has categorically denied that the batteries in the iPhones are faulty, except for a small number of iPhone 6S models, for which it is offering free battery replacements to its users.

Although the company tried to drop the case, the Competition Appeal Court (CAT) decided to continue Gutman's case.

"We have never, ever done anything to intentionally shorten the lifespan of any Apple product or disrupt the user experience to provide customer updates," an Apple spokesperson said.
