A New Step in the "Digital Silk Road" - Strategic Agreement from Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan

The next stage of the construction of the Trans-Caspian Fiber Optic Cable Line, an important component of the Digital Silk Way project, which aims to create a digital corridor between Europe and Asia through Azerbaijan, is underway. With the participation of the Prime Ministers of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, Ali Asadov and Oljas Bektenov, a document was signed approving the agreement on the construction of underwater fiber-optic communication lines along the bottom of the Caspian Sea. The document was signed by Emil Masimov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of AzerTelecom, and Bagdat Musin, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kazakhtelecom.

As part of the Trans-Caspian Fiber Optic Cable Line Project, which is of strategic importance for the region, a 380 km fiber-optic cable line will be laid along the bottom of the Caspian Sea between the cities of Sumgayit (Azerbaijan) and Aktau (Kazakhstan). This will ensure the transmission of multi-terabit data and the establishment of high-speed internet connections of up to 400 terabits/s.

The construction process will be carried out in several stages, including the assessment of coastal areas and the seabed, the design and manufacture of high-quality, durable cables, as well as their transportation and installation. AzerTelecom and Kazakhtelecom plan to complete the construction work by the end of 2026.

The Trans-Caspian Fiber Optic Cable Line is an important part of the Digital Silk Road project, a digital telecommunications corridor that will pass through the territories of various countries, including Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan. This digital infrastructure will provide the most optimal and shortest route for data transmission, providing high bandwidth and minimal latency, and will promote regional cooperation and sustainable development between countries.
