ADB allocates loan to public sector in Azerbaijan for the first time

The European Investment Bank (AIB) has allocated a loan for the development of digital infrastructure in the public sector in Azerbaijan for the first time.
The loan amount to be spent on the construction of two new Data Centers of “AzInTelecom” LLC, subordinate to the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, amounted to 43 million euros. The project aims to further expand and make accessible the “cloud” services provided by the state-owned company.
On December 20, a signing ceremony was held at the administrative building of “AzInTelecom” LLC to approve the loan agreement.
Regarding the project, AIB Vice President Teresa Chervinska expressed her pleasure to formalize the first loan support to the public sector of Azerbaijan: “Improving access to information and promoting sustainable digital transformation are among the key priorities of the European Investment Bank. This investment, aimed at innovation and transparency, will contribute not only to the modernization of public administration, but also to sustainable economic growth and social progress.”
Elkhan Azizov, Acting Chairman of the Board of Directors of AzInTelecom LLC, who signed the agreement on behalf of Azerbaijan, said that this project will give a significant boost to the digital transformation underway in the country: “With the implementation of this project, cloud services will be more accessible to both small and large organizations. Of course, this, in turn, will have a direct positive impact on the development of the digital ecosystem in Azerbaijan. I would also like to note that the construction of both Data Centers, which are planned to be built in the Absheron and Hajigabul regions, will be carried out on the basis of green technologies.”
It should be noted that this initiative is being implemented in accordance with the European Union’s Economic and Investment Plan (EIP) for the Eastern Partnership, as well as the “Global Gateway” strategy. At the same time, it emphasizes the European Union’s commitment to promoting sustainable development and digital transformation in the region.
“AzInTelecom” LLC is the largest “cloud” provider in Azerbaijan and the first organization in the South Caucasus to receive the internationally prestigious “TIER 3” certificate for Data Centers. The company currently provides cloud services to more than 200 organizations in the public and private sectors through its Data Centers located in Baku and Yevlakh.
