Apple has officially sold 3 billion iPhones

Apple has officially reached a major milestone: the company has sold 3 billion iPhones since the launch of the first model in 2007. CEO Tim Cook announced the figure during Apple’s Q3 earnings call on Thursday.

It took Apple nine years to sell its first 1 billion iPhones, reaching that milestone in 2016. Now, another 2 billion units have been sold over the past nine years, marking the continued growth and popularity of the iPhone globally.

While Apple celebrates this remarkable achievement, the company has faced stock market challenges this year, falling behind other tech giants like Nvidia and Microsoft in market valuation. However, a stronger-than-expected performance in iPhone sales this quarter may offer Apple a reason to celebrate beyond the milestone itself.

iPhone revenue rose 13% year-over-year, reaching $44.6 billion, which accounts for nearly half of Apple’s total revenue of $94 billion for the quarter. The iPhone remains the company’s most popular and profitable product.

Still, experts caution that the growth may be temporary. Bloomberg’s Executive Editor and Apple analyst Mark Gurman suggested that fears over former President Trump’s potential tariff plans may have driven consumers to purchase more iPhones last quarter, anticipating future price hikes.

Regardless, the 3 billion mark is a historic achievement that reinforces Apple’s dominant position in the global smartphone market.
