Apple’s Chief Operating Officer Jeff Williams to step down

Apple’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) Jeff Williams will step down from his position at the end of this month, the company officially announced on July 8, 2025. He will be succeeded by Sabih Khan, who currently serves as Apple’s Senior Vice President of Operations.

Williams stated that he has decided to retire in order to spend more time with his family and friends. “I have five grandchildren — and counting. I want to spend more time with them,” he said in a press release.

Williams will continue to work at Apple until the end of the year and will report directly to CEO Tim Cook. During this transition period, he will continue to oversee the Apple Watch and the company’s design team. After Williams retires, the design team will begin reporting directly to Cook.

Jeff Williams has worked at Apple for nearly 30 years. Throughout his career, he has played a key role in the development and launch of major products such as the iPod, iPhone, and Apple Watch, and has overseen the company’s design teams. His contributions have played a significant role in Apple’s success over the years.
