According to the legislation, from January 1, 2026, the production, import into the country and sale of incandescent lamps with a power of 60 watts and higher will be suspended, and from July 1, 2026, incandescent lamps with a power of 25 watts (including 25 watts) to 60 watts will be suspended. These restrictions do not apply to incandescent lamps used in industrial areas, as well as those serving technological functions that are not intended for lighting.
The conducted analyses show that LED lamps significantly outperform incandescent lamps in terms of both energy consumption and financial performance. Thus, one LED lamp with an average operating life of 15 thousand hours (approximately 7 years) can replace 17 incandescent lamps with a service life of 1,000 hours. For the same level of illumination, a 7-watt LED lamp is sufficient instead of a 60-watt incandescent lamp. As a result, while the total lighting cost of an LED lamp is 14.4 manat, this figure increases to 82.2 manat for incandescent lamps.
According to calculations, the use of 1 million 60-watt incandescent lamps for a year leads to 131.4 million kWh of electricity consumption. To produce this amount of energy, 29.1 million cubic meters of natural gas are required, resulting in 63.6 thousand tons of carbon emissions. When switching to the same number of LED lamps, electricity consumption, fuel consumption and carbon emissions into the atmosphere are reduced by 8.6 times. If half of the current 2.7 million household subscribers abandon incandescent lamps and switch to LED lamps, the electricity consumed for daily lighting could decrease from 4.86 million kWh to 567 thousand kWh.
In addition, LED lamps are considered safer in terms of eye health, as they have a low pulsation indicator (about 1%). In incandescent lamps, this indicator is 13%. LED lamps also do not contain mercury and other harmful substances, emit less heat, are long-lasting and more resistant to voltage fluctuations.
The gradual phasing out of incandescent lamps and the transition to LED technologies contributes to increasing energy efficiency in the country, reducing consumer costs, minimizing environmental impact and forming sustainable energy use habits. In this regard, citizens and business entities are recommended to give preference to energy-efficient lighting devices.
