Azerbaijani "Unicorn" Startup Founder Stepan Pachikov

Stepan Pachikov was born in 1950 in the Oghuz region of Azerbaijan. He showed a great interest in science and technology from an early age.

In 1989, Stepan Pachikov founded a startup called ParaGraph International. This startup collaborated with Apple to create handwriting recognition technology for the Apple Newton. The Newton was one of the most advanced personal digital assistants of its time, and Pachikov's technology automatically converted what users wrote with a stylus into digital text. This was considered a revolutionary innovation for its time and led to Pachikov's worldwide recognition.

In 1996, he left ParaGraph and founded Parascript. Parascript specializes in OCR (optical character recognition) technologies and signature recognition systems and serves large clients such as the US Postal Service and election commissions.

Later, one of Pachikov's greatest successes was the Evernote platform, which he created in 2002. Evernote allows users to conveniently store, organize, and search for notes, images, audio recordings, and other information. Pachikov himself says that he came up with the idea of creating such a “second brain” because he does not have a good memory.

In 2013, Evernote’s market value was estimated at about $1 billion. In 2022, Bending Spoons acquired Evernote. Although the purchase price was not officially disclosed, Evernote’s annual recurring revenue was reported to be about $100 million.

As a world-renowned scientist and entrepreneur of Azerbaijani origin, Stepan Pachikov has left a significant mark in both the local and global technology fields.
