According to information shared by OpenAI with Axios, ChatGPT users around the world send approximately 2.5 billion prompts per day. Of these, around 330 million originate from users in the United States. These figures highlight how deeply integrated ChatGPT has become in our daily lives and the broader digital ecosystem.

For comparison, Google’s parent company, Alphabet, has reported that it processes roughly 5 trillion search queries annually, which averages to about 14 billion searches per day. Independent researchers have also reported similar numbers. Neil Patel of NP Digital estimates that Google handles 13.7 billion daily searches, while digital marketing firms SparkToro and Datos suggest the figure is closer to 16.4 billion per day.

Although Google still handles significantly more search queries than ChatGPT, the rapid growth of OpenAI’s chatbot is especially noteworthy. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated in December 2024 that users were sending over 1 billion prompts to ChatGPT daily. Compared to that number, the current prompt volume has more than doubled in a relatively short span.

This swift increase reflects a fundamental shift in how people search for information and interact with technology. While Google remains the dominant search platform, AI-powered chatbots like ChatGPT offer a new, interactive approach—enabling users to ask questions, solve problems, and generate content through direct dialogue.

The rising popularity of ChatGPT suggests that artificial intelligence is becoming more deeply embedded in everyday life, from education and professional work to entertainment. As AI technologies continue to evolve, the way people access and interact with information is set to change even further—favoring more interactive, contextual, and AI-supported platforms.
