Cybersecurity measures have been implemented in response to the unauthorized access of video surveillance camera footage.
The State Security Service (DTX) continues to carry out comprehensive actions to combat cyber threats.
Operational and technical measures were conducted concerning illegal activities involving remote unauthorized access via the global internet network to management devices (DVRs) of video surveillance cameras installed in various offices and residences across the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan. These actions included the seizure of video materials containing private and family life information of residents, which were then uploaded to foreign internet information resources.
Investigations also revealed that user accounts capable of real-time viewing of video surveillance footage from different locations in Azerbaijan were being offered for sale.
In connection with these findings, the DTX, together with relevant state agencies, ensured the elimination of harmful consequences resulting from the cyber intrusions.
Urgent measures identified the addresses of the affected surveillance cameras. Technical inspections of these devices uncovered general security vulnerabilities, which were determined to be the primary factors enabling the cyber intrusions.
Furthermore, the removal of these security gaps was requested from the respective foreign manufacturing company. The deletion of the compromised video footage from foreign internet resources was also secured.
Citizens are advised to strictly follow the relevant rules related to information and communication technologies and to exercise caution when using equipment of unknown origin or technical specifications.
