Elon Musk has announced that the headquarters of the X and SpaceX companies have been moved from California to Texas.
As the billionaire noted, the main reason for this step is the recently adopted law "On the protection of the rights of LGBT schoolchildren" in California. The new law prohibits schools from informing parents if a child wants to change gender or use pronouns other than their biological sex.
According to Musk, such measures create a negative atmosphere for families and businesses, and this was the "last straw" for his decision.
This was the last straw. Elon Musk wrote on the X social network: "This law and many others before it are aimed at families and companies, and will move Space X headquarters from Hawthorne, California to Starbase in Texas."
California Governor Gavin Newsom cast doubt on the seriousness of Musk's promises, recalling that Tesla had previously announced plans to relocate its headquarters, but was actually increasing its presence in the state. However, as The Wall Street Journal notes, SpaceX already has a significant presence in Texas and has long planned to expand in the state. WSJ sources also indicate plans to relocate Company X were discussed before the controversial law was passed.
