GameStop wants to buy eBay for $56 billion

US video game retailer GameStop has made an offer to buy online trading platform eBay for $56 billion. This amount significantly exceeds eBay's market value of approximately $46.2 billion as of May 4, 2026.

According to the report, GameStop is offering to buy eBay shares for $125 each. The company's CEO Ryan Cohen said that the goal is to make eBay a serious competitor to Amazon. According to him, the company has already received an initial financial guarantee of $20 billion from TD Bank.

The planned deal will be financed 50% in cash and the rest in GameStop shares. If eBay management does not accept this offer, Cohen stressed that he is ready to fight for a place on the board of directors and appeal directly to shareholders.

GameStop's strategy involves integrating its retail stores with the eBay platform. Thus, physical stores can become acceptance and authentication points for products provided by sellers.

It should be noted that GameStop was considered a weakening business until 2021. However, as a result of a campaign organized on social networks at the beginning of that year, the company's shares rose sharply, causing a great resonance.
