Google to Pay €326 Million to Settle Tax Dispute in Italy

Google has agreed to pay €326 million to settle a tax dispute with the Italian government and have the charges dropped. The agreement resolves allegations related to unpaid taxes and penalties for the period between 2015 and 2019.

Last year, the Italian Revenue Agency filed a lawsuit against Google, claiming the company owed €1 billion in unpaid taxes and fines. In June 2024, Milan prosecutors accused Google of failing to declare its revenues in Italy and based their claims on the company's digital infrastructure within the country. The investigation reportedly began in December 2022.

According to the prosecutor’s statement, the €326 million settlement includes penalties, interest, and other legal costs.

A Google spokesperson previously responded to the allegations, stating: "We comply with tax regulations in all countries where we operate, including Italy, and we cooperate with the authorities."

This is not Google’s first tax dispute in Italy. In 2017, the company faced a similar case and was forced to pay €306 million after authorities determined that Google had a permanent establishment in Italy due to its local operations, requiring it to pay additional taxes.
