Historic meeting: Bill Gates and Linus Torvalds meet for the first time after years

In the United States, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and the creator of the Linux kernel, Linus Torvalds, have met for the first time. According to The Verge, it is surprising that these two prominent figures in the tech world had never crossed paths until now.

The meeting took place during a dinner hosted by Mark Russinovich, Chief Technology Officer at Microsoft and co-founder of the Sysinternals platform. The meeting was informal, and no technical decisions were made. However, the tech community sees this kind of interaction as potentially paving the way for future collaboration.

Experts have long viewed Gates and Torvalds as representatives of opposing technological and philosophical standpoints. Gates is known as a proponent of commercializing software, while Torvalds advocates for open-source principles and promotes a transparent, collaborative approach to software development.

Torvalds is known in the tech world for his outspoken views and sharp criticism of his peers. He has often dismissed developments in artificial intelligence as largely driven by marketing. In 2018, he temporarily stepped away from Linux development due to his approach to interpersonal communication. During that time, he created Git, which later became a widely used version control system.

This meeting is considered a significant event, as it marks the first time two influential figures representing fundamentally different approaches in the tech industry have come face to face. Whether their paths will converge again for further dialogue or collaboration remains to be seen.
