iPhone designer quits job to join artificial intelligence startup

Bloomberg reports that iPhone Air industrial designer Abidur Choudhury has left Apple to work for an undisclosed artificial intelligence (AI) startup. He worked at Apple for more than six years and was involved in the development of the iPhone Air, as well as playing a role in the launch of the device.

Sources say that Choudhury’s departure was not due to poor sales of the iPhone Air, but rather because of his “increasing popularity” at the company.

Bloomberg notes that Apple’s design team has undergone significant changes since Jony Ive’s departure in 2019. In recent years, numerous employees have either retired or moved to other companies.

In November 2025, Chief Operating Officer Jeff Williams also left the company; he led the design teams. At the same time, the user interface (UI) department also faced staff changes under the leadership of Alan Day.
