Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has set a new strategic goal following dissatisfaction with the company’s current progress in the field of artificial intelligence: the development of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). In pursuit of this vision, he has recently held private meetings with leading AI researchers and engineers at his residences in Lake Tahoe and Palo Alto, California.
Zuckerberg has made the creation of a dedicated group — internally referred to as the "superintelligence team" — a personal priority. Reportedly, he is directly involved in selecting around 50 highly qualified specialists and has requested that the team work in close proximity to him at Meta’s headquarters in Menlo Park.
This initiative is running parallel to Meta’s planned collaboration with Scale AI, a move considered one of the company’s largest investment steps to date. Scale AI, a provider of data services for model training, is led by founder Alexandr Wang, who is expected to join the superintelligence team once the deal is finalized.
Sources within the tech industry indicate that Zuckerberg has entered what insiders describe as a “founder mode” over the past two months, taking a more hands-on approach in company operations. It is noted that he has now positioned artificial intelligence as Meta’s top strategic priority.
Meta representatives, however, have declined to comment publicly on these plans.
