Met, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, has signed a contract with Orsted for a 300 MW solar power and energy storage system. With this agreement, Meta will own a majority of the production of a 300 MW solar farm and a 300 MW battery energy storage system being built in the US state of Arizona.
This facility is scheduled to be completed in 2024. In addition, Meta will receive part of the production for another 50MW solar facility earlier this year and a 200MW solar facility to be commissioned in 2024. This move by Meta aims to feed the Mesa campus in Arizona. The company has achieved net-zero emissions and 100% renewable energy in 2020, and plans to invest 9.8 GW of wind and solar capacity in the US alone by 2025.
