Ruoming Pang, who previously led AI model development at Apple, has left the company to join Meta. According to Bloomberg, Pang will now work within Meta’s newly established artificial intelligence division.
At Apple, Pang oversaw the team responsible for building the AI foundation models that power on-device features like Apple Intelligence. However, in recent years, Apple has lagged behind competitors in the AI space. Reports suggest the company is even considering integrating third-party AI models to support the upcoming version of Siri.
Sources indicate that Pang’s departure reflects broader challenges within Apple’s AI division, and more high-profile exits may follow.
By bringing Pang on board, Meta aims to strengthen its position in the AI sector. The company has recently hired several key experts from firms like Google DeepMind, OpenAI, and other leading AI organizations.
