Microsoft to End Windows 10 Support in October

Microsoft officially ended support for the Windows 10 operating system on October 14, 2025. This means that millions of computers around the world that still run on this system will no longer receive critical security updates.

From now on, no version of Windows 10 will receive patches for security vulnerabilities, new features, or technical support. Experts warn that this situation will sharply increase security risks. Without regular updates, newly discovered flaws will act as open doors for hackers, viruses, and other cyber threats.

“More than half of users are still running Windows 10 today, and in the corporate sector that figure is close to 60%,” according to statistics released by Kaspersky Lab. These numbers highlight just how many devices are potentially at risk following the end of support.

What Should Users Do?

Experts recommend several steps to avoid serious security issues.

Upgrading to Windows 11 is the best option if your computer meets the minimum system requirements. The upgrade is free and ensures your device continues to receive the latest security updates.

For those unable to upgrade immediately, Microsoft is offering Extended Security Updates (ESU) for Windows 10. Individual users can extend support for one year at a cost of $30. While this is only a temporary solution, it may buy time for a smoother transition.

If your computer does not meet the requirements for Windows 11 and you don’t wish to rely on paid support, the safest option is to purchase a new device.

The transition, however, may prove difficult for many, as Windows 11 has stricter system requirements than Windows 10. Older processors and the mandatory TPM 2.0 feature, in particular, prevent a large number of users from accessing the free upgrade.

In the end, Windows 10 users face a choice: continue using an unsupported system and accept the risks, or take concrete steps to move to a more secure environment. The experts’ main message is clear: act in time to protect your data.
