Microsoft to lay off 9,000 employees as part of structural streamlining

Tech giant Microsoft is set to lay off approximately 9,000 employees—less than 4% of its global workforce—as part of a broader effort to simplify its internal structure and increase operational efficiency. The news was first reported by CNBC, citing sources close to the company.

Despite strong financial performance, including a year-over-year net income increase of 18% to $25.8 billion in its most recent quarterly earnings, Microsoft continues to trim its workforce. The upcoming round of layoffs adds to several previous job cuts already carried out earlier this year.

According to company representatives, the job reductions are intended to eliminate management layers and streamline decision-making processes. The cuts are expected to primarily impact support roles and middle management positions.

Microsoft emphasized that these changes are aligned with its long-term growth strategy, aiming to reallocate resources toward priority areas such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and enterprise solutions.

While the layoffs reflect internal restructuring, Microsoft has reassured investors and employees that the company remains financially healthy and focused on maintaining its leadership in next-generation technologies.
