OpenAI plans to generate $2.5 billion in ad revenue from ChatGPT this year. The company is reportedly aiming to reach $100 billion by 2030, competing with leading players in the global ad market.
According to the company’s forecasts, ChatGPT’s weekly user base could reach 2.75 billion in the next 10 years. This growth is cited as a key factor in the rapid growth of ad revenue. OpenAI estimates that ad revenue will reach $11 billion in 2027, $25 billion in 2028, and $53 billion in 2029.
The company has already started showing ads to users of its free and cheaper “Go” plans in the United States in early 2026. In the pilot phase, this model attracted more than 600 advertisers, surpassing the $100 million annual revenue mark in just 6 weeks.
Although there are concerns about the impact of ads on user experience, OpenAI says it has not seen any significant negative reactions so far.
By comparison, Google is expected to generate $295 billion in advertising revenue by 2025, while Meta is expected to generate $196 billion. OpenAI’s $100 billion target shows that it wants to become not just a technology company, but also a powerful media player in the global advertising market.
