OpenAI is developing an independent social media platform entirely dedicated to AI-generated content, based on its latest and most powerful video generation model, Sora 2.
The functionality of the new app will resemble the popular TikTok platform: users will scroll through a vertical feed and encounter a personalized “For You” stream recommended by the algorithm. However, the fundamental difference of this platform is that all videos will be generated directly by artificial intelligence, without any human intervention.
Creation Mechanism: Users will be able to create videos up to 10 seconds long within the platform using the Sora 2 model.
No External Uploads: The app will not allow users to upload existing videos or photos from their phone gallery. Only scenes generated by the AI model will be used.
According to available information, the platform places special emphasis on personal safety. Through identity verification, users can confirm their own likeness and use it securely in AI-generated videos. If someone tags a user in a video, the system will immediately send a notification.
The app has been included in internal testing at OpenAI, and initial feedback indicates higher-than-expected interest among employees. This project also provides a strategic opportunity for OpenAI to offer a short-video alternative without “Chinese connections,” amid ongoing uncertainty around TikTok in the United States.
Additionally, the app is expected to intensify competition in AI video creation among technology giants such as Meta and Google. The company has so far declined to comment officially on these claims. If confirmed, this platform could fundamentally change the scope of AI use in social media.
