OpenAI has introduced its new web browser, ChatGPT Atlas

This move is seen as the company’s entry into the web browser market, increasing competition in the field. The new browser is equipped with artificial intelligence capabilities and aims to redefine the internet browsing experience.

ChatGPT Atlas became globally available for macOS users on October 21, 2025. The company announced that versions for Windows, iOS, and Android platforms will be released in the near future.

During the presentation, Sam Altman emphasized the significance of the browser, stating, “If we think about how people will use the internet in the future... the chat experience inside the web browser could be a great example of that.” This highlights that interactive communication with AI lies at the core of the browser’s design.

ChatGPT Product Lead Adam Fry pointed out two main advantages of Atlas. The first is the Memory feature, which allows the browser to remember previous conversations and context, providing a more personalized and helpful experience. The second is the Agent feature, enabling ChatGPT to perform certain tasks on behalf of users—such as organizing flights or reservations, or helping edit documents.

One of the browser’s standout features is its split-screen mode. When a search result link is opened, the screen automatically divides into two parts: one displaying the webpage and the other showing the ChatGPT chat panel. This design allows users to continuously interact with the AI assistant, although the mode can be turned off if desired.

Altman described the browser as “an excellent browser in every sense—easy to use, fast, and truly enjoyable.” The launch of ChatGPT Atlas marks a significant step in the evolution of web browser functionality and the integration of AI into everyday internet use.
