OpenAI has announced on its official website that it has introduced new artificial intelligence models belonging to the GPT-5.1 family. The new version consists of two different models, GPT-5.1 Instant and GPT-5.1 Thinking.
GPT-5.1 Instant has a more sincere communication style and increased empathy. The model more accurately follows user instructions and responds immediately to simple tasks thanks to the “adaptive thinking” function, while on more complex topics it first “thinks” and then creates an answer.
The GPT-5.1 Thinking model demonstrates a more analytical approach — it analyzes difficult questions in depth and responds faster to simple tasks. OpenAI says that the new system’s answers have become more specific, and vague expressions and jargon have been reduced.
The company has also expanded the ability to customize ChatGPT’s response style. Now users can adjust the program’s response tone to “professional”, “friendly”, “sincere”, “effective”, “crazy” or “sarcastic”. The brevity, warmth, and use of emoticons can also be changed.
The new GPT-5.1 models are currently available to paid users, but will be available to all users in the coming days. The previous GPT-5 models will remain active for the next three months.
