OpenAI has launched a new section within ChatGPT called Health. This section allows users to connect their electronic medical records, as well as fitness and health apps such as Apple Health, Function, MyFitnessPal, Weight Watchers and Peloton to the chat.
Based on this data, ChatGPT can provide nutrition and exercise recommendations, help understand test results, prepare for doctor appointments and help users choose insurance that suits their habits. The company emphasizes that the bot is not a replacement for a professional medical professional.
Chats in the Health section and data from connected apps are kept completely separate from other conversations and are protected by a special encrypted “memory” mechanism.
According to OpenAI’s internal research, more than 230 million people ask ChatGPT health-related questions every week, which is one of the most popular use cases on the platform.
The new section will initially be tested in beta mode and can be signed up for a wishlist. ChatGPT Health is expected to be available to all users in the coming weeks, including in the non-subscription version. Integration with electronic medical records is only intended for the United States.
