OpenAI Offers Free "ChatGPT Go" Subscription to Users in India

OpenAI is offering a one-year free subscription to its "ChatGPT Go" plan in India to attract more users. Marketed as a “budget-friendly” version, the plan normally costs around $5 per month.

According to TechCrunch, all users who register for the campaign—including current ChatGPT subscribers—will gain free access. The promotion will start on November 4, 2025, though OpenAI has not specified how long it will run.

This initiative aims to attract new users in India, which is considered a key market for AI developers. Competitors such as Google and Perplexity have also launched similar offers for Indian users. For example, Google provided Indian students with a free one-year subscription to Gemini AI Pro, while Perplexity granted a one-year free access to nearly 360 million subscribers of India’s Bharti Airtel mobile network.

It’s worth noting that the ChatGPT Go plan, priced at roughly $5 per month (around 8.5 AZN), was first launched in India in August 2025. This rollout doubled the number of paid ChatGPT subscribers in the country within just one month, although OpenAI has not released exact figures.

By fall 2025, the ChatGPT Go plan was initially introduced in Indonesia and later rolled out in 16 other countries. Subscribers to this “budget-friendly” plan receive significantly higher usage limits for AI models and image generation compared to the free version—up to ten times more.
