OpenAI prepares to launch “Sign in with ChatGPT” feature for third-party applications

OpenAI, one of the leading innovators in artificial intelligence technologies, is preparing to launch a new feature that will allow users to sign in to third-party applications using their ChatGPT accounts. The update was shared on a new webpage published by the company on Tuesday.

Currently, OpenAI is collecting feedback from software developers interested in integrating this feature into their applications. The “Sign in with ChatGPT” option could offer users a login experience similar to those provided by major tech companies such as Google, Apple, and Microsoft.

ChatGPT, OpenAI’s rapidly growing product, has now reached 600 million monthly active users. The company aims to leverage this popularity to expand into other consumer sectors, including online shopping, social media, and personal devices.

Earlier this month, OpenAI introduced a preview version of the feature within its open-source coding tool, Codex CLI. Users were able to link their ChatGPT Free, Plus, or Pro accounts to their API accounts. To encourage adoption, OpenAI offered API credits—$5 for Plus users and $50 for Pro users.

At this development stage, OpenAI is exploring partnership opportunities with companies of various sizes. The developer interest form asks for a wide range of information, from the app’s weekly user count (ranging from under 1,000 to over 100 million) to pricing models for AI features and whether they currently use the OpenAI API.

It’s worth noting that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman had already hinted in 2023 at the possibility of a “Sign in with OpenAI” feature. Now, in 2025, it appears that the company is actively moving forward with the implementation.

The exact launch date for end users and the number of companies that have joined the initiative remain unclear. OpenAI has not yet responded to TechCrunch’s request for comment on the matter.
