OpenAI is nearing the completion of a new funding round led by SoftBank, aiming to raise a total of $40 billion. This round also sees participation from other investment firms like Magnetar Capital, Coatue Management, Founders Fund, and Altimeter Capital Management. According to reports, Magnetar Capital plans to invest $1 billion in the round.
SoftBank will initially invest $7.5 billion in the round, with an additional $2.5 billion coming from other investors. A second phase of the funding is expected later this year, where SoftBank will invest an additional $22.5 billion, with $7.5 billion more syndicated from other investors.
In its previous funding round, OpenAI raised $6.6 billion in October 2024, led by Thrive Capital, bringing the company’s valuation to $157 billion. The new funding round is expected to boost OpenAI's valuation to $300 billion.
