OpenAI sues Elon Musk

This counter-lawsuit filed by OpenAI is in response to Elon Musk’s ongoing “attacks” on the company and his “fake acquisition proposal.” According to legal documents submitted by OpenAI’s attorneys, Musk’s persistent statements and actions jeopardize the company’s future, and these activities must be halted immediately. The company demands that Musk be held accountable for the damage caused and that his “unlawful and unfair actions” be stopped.

In an official statement on its X (formerly Twitter) account, OpenAI declared:
“Elon’s actions against us are unethical tactics aimed at slowing down OpenAI and seizing control of leading innovations in artificial intelligence for personal gain.”

It’s worth noting that Elon Musk is one of the co-founders of OpenAI. In the spring of 2024, he filed a lawsuit against the company, claiming it had strayed from its original mission of developing artificial general intelligence (AGI) for the benefit of humanity and had instead begun prioritizing profit. Although this lawsuit was withdrawn in June, it was refiled in August. The court hearing is scheduled for the spring of 2026.

In February 2025, Musk offered $97.4 billion to acquire OpenAI, stating that it was “time for the company to return to open-source principles as it was initially intended.” However, OpenAI rejected this offer.

This incident once again highlights the intense competition within the artificial intelligence sector and the growing tension between technology giants over innovation and control.
