Pavel Durov has strongly criticized the European Union for its attempts to increase Internet control

Pavel Durov, the head of the Telegram platform, has reacted sharply to the European Union's plans to strengthen control over the Internet. He said that the EU is spreading "absurd narratives" through some non-governmental organizations and the media in order to increase surveillance and censorship.

Durov cited an article published on the France 24 channel as an example. The article claims that users are distributing content taken from other social networks on Telegram and that the platform is unable to control this.

AI Forensics, an organization that cooperates with the EU, assessed Telegram as a problem, noting that users discuss content from other platforms in private groups.

Durov refuted these allegations, saying that such approaches are aimed at manipulating public opinion and pose a threat to freedom of speech. According to him, as a result of these attempts, users' freedoms are gradually being restricted.
