Roblox banned in Russia for promoting LGBT and violence

Roskomnadzor announced that access to the online gaming platform Roblox has been blocked. The agency told TASS that the reason for the blocking was “massive and repeated distribution of materials promoting extremist and terrorist activities.”

According to the situation, the game contains calls for illegal actions, incitement to violence, and LGBT content (prohibited under Russian law). Roskomnadzor says that the platform’s internal moderation system cannot fully ensure safety for children, and the game content can negatively affect their moral development.

Also, according to the agency, cases of sexual harassment and incitement to violence against children occur through the game, they are asked to provide intimate photos and are used by pedophiles. More serious allegations are that children can be involved in potential terrorist acts, attack schools, and participate in gambling.

Access to Roblox has been impossible in Russia since the morning of December 3. On the same day, more than 1,000 complaints were received about the game.

It should be noted that a 13-year-old girl recently killed her mother and set fire to her apartment in St. Petersburg; local media claimed that the incident may have been planned via Roblox.
