Members of the SABAH Angel Investors Club (SABAH.angels) have invested a total of AZN 500,000 in Clopos Inc., a company founded by Azerbaijani entrepreneurs. The investment process was organized under the leadership of Alya Abbaszade, CEO of the club. This marks the fifth investment made by SABAH.angels overall and its first investment in a local startup.

Founded in 2023, SABAH.angels is an investment club that connects early-stage technology companies with angel investors. Its activities include developing an investor network, evaluating startups, presenting investment opportunities to members, and organizing investment processes. The club aims to expand access to capital for companies with strong growth potential and increase investor participation in these businesses.

SABAH.angels currently brings together more than 180 active angel investors, 69 of whom regularly participate in investment processes. By connecting investors with experience across various industries, the club focuses on early-stage startups with high growth potential in the United States, Azerbaijan, Türkiye, Georgia, Central Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa.

Projects submitted to the club are evaluated by a Selection Committee comprising 11 club members with experience in finance, investment, engineering, information technology, and other fields. The assessment considers the business model, market potential, the product’s competitive advantages, the team’s execution capabilities, and opportunities for scaling. The evaluation covers both the project’s commercial prospects and the team’s ability to implement its growth plans. Selected projects are then presented to club members for investment consideration.

The investment in Clopos is significant as it directs local capital towards a technology company founded by Azerbaijani entrepreneurs and operating in international markets. This investment is one of the outcomes of the club’s efforts to connect local startups with investors.

Founded in 2018, Clopos provides cloud-based point-of-sale (POS) and management solutions for restaurants, cafés, and other food service businesses. Its platform enables businesses to manage sales, payments, inventory, finances, and daily operations through a single system. The company currently serves more than 4,500 active customers across over 13 countries. Its headquarters are located in New York, while its research and development centre is based in Baku.

In addition to financing, an environment that brings together science, education, and business opportunities is essential for the development of technology entrepreneurship in Azerbaijan. SABAH.city, an innovation campus established on the basis of the High Technologies Park under the Ministry of Science and Education, brings together startups, technology companies, universities, researchers, and investors. The campus creates opportunities for startup development, the commercialisation of research, and stronger collaboration between science and business. Through incubation and acceleration programmes, mentorship, and access to partner networks, entrepreneurs receive support at various stages, from developing an idea to scaling a business.

Under the leadership of CEO Alya Abbaszade, SABAH.angels aims to continue connecting local and regional startups with high growth potential to investors, expand the participation of local investors in early-stage investments, and contribute to strengthening Azerbaijan’s position within the regional innovation ecosystem.
