Artificial intelligence search engine Perplexity has purchased a premium domain called “OS.ai” to build its own AI-based operating system.
The domain’s previous owner and well-known tech investor Dharmesh Shah announced the deal on LinkedIn on July 13, 2025. He confirmed that the domain had been sold to Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas: “I sold the domain os.ai to @AravSrinivas,” Shah said. He also noted that he was a shareholder in Perplexity before the sale and is now a “slightly larger shareholder” after the deal. Financial details of the sale were not disclosed.
Aravind Srinivas, meanwhile, posted a short and cryptic post on the social network on July 14, simply writing “os dot ai.” The post sparked a lot of interest among the tech community, garnering 45,000 views and sparking discussions about Perplexity’s future plans.
The acquisition of the new domain is seen as an indication of Perplexity's broader vision in the field of artificial intelligence.
