As of today, the first "bike-sharing" (bicycle rental) service has been launched in Baku. Special structures for parking micromobility vehicles have been installed in about 50 locations within the city. Information boards about the procedure for renting bicycles are also placed in those stations. On these boards, it will be possible to activate and deactivate the bicycles by switching to the software through QR-codes. At the same time, it is possible to see the nearest parking places through the application.
The infrastructure created for bicycle use in Baku will contribute to a cleaner urban environment and the formation of a healthy society. For this purpose, AYNA organized a continuous micromobility lane of more than 10 km in the city at the first stage. Also, appropriate marking works were carried out, road signs were installed, ramps were built and safety barriers were installed. Installation of bicycle sections on traffic light poles continues. The micromobility infrastructure created and the improvement of the legislation are enabling the widespread use of bicycles and scooters.
According to global statistics, the number of traffic accidents decreases by 24-30% in cities that have made cycling a mode of transport. This new service is expected to have an important impact on increasing road safety and environmental protection in Baku.
