$158.8 million stolen in Uzbekistan through cybercrime

In Uzbekistan, 44.4% of crimes recorded in 2024 were committed using information technologies. Magsudjon Mirabdullayev, a representative of the Cybersecurity Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, said that in 2021-2024, a total of about $158.8 million was stolen from citizens; in 2024 alone, the damage was about $50.4 million.

98% of cybercrimes are related to bank cards. The most common methods are: malicious links and programs (60%), fake calls and interception of SMS codes (16%), online credit fraud (4%), fraud on e-commerce sites (11%) and fake investment platforms (9%).

Mirabdullayev emphasized that deepfakes are widely used, and in 31% of cases, fraud occurs in the withdrawal of online loans through fake videos.

When cyber fraud is detected, citizens can call the short numbers 102 or 1102; together with operational teams and the Central Bank, cards are frozen and attempts are made to prevent the loss of funds. The Ministry of Internal Affairs announced that it will publish a list of banks and payment institutions with the highest number of cyber crimes every year.
