Access to Instagram is blocked in Turkey

Turkey's Information Technologies and Communications Authority (BTK) has banned access to the popular social media application Instagram since Friday morning.

When a request was made on the official website of the Information Technologies and Communications Department, it was reported that the site was blocked. The site includes the statements "access to instagram.com is blocked by the decision of the Information Technologies and Communications Authority dated 02/08/2024 and No. 490.05.01.2024.-608983."

No explanation has yet been given as to why the decision was made.

On the other hand, after Ismail Haniyeh, head of the Political Bureau of Hamas, was killed by Israel in Tehran, the capital of Iran, it was claimed that Instagram blocked posts related to Haniyeh, and Communications Director Fakhreddin Altun also issued a statement on the subject.
Altun said, "No matter how many Palestinians Israel kills, the Palestinian cause will not be erased from history. The state of Israel will go down in history as the executor of extrajudicial executions, assassinations, occupation and genocide. I also strongly condemn the social media platform Instagram, which prevents people from sending messages of condolence on Haniyeh's martyrdom without giving any reason. This is a very clear and obvious attempt at censorship."
There was no official statement on whether the access block was related to the death of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the Hamas Political Bureau, who was killed in Iran.
