Adobe, the owner of popular creative software such as Photoshop and Premiere, is further strengthening its Firefly app, widely used in the field of visual creativity. In its recent announcement, the company revealed that AI models developed by OpenAI and Google's parent company Alphabet will now be integrated into the Firefly app, which will also become available on mobile devices.
Based in San Jose, California, Adobe has been developing its own AI models within the Firefly service since 2023. These models allow users to generate images and video content, and the company has promised that content created with its models will be commercially safe and legally risk-free.
Now, Adobe has announced that it will offer several third-party models to Firefly users, including OpenAI’s GPT-based image generation technology, Google’s Imagen 3 and Veo 2 models, as well as Flux 1.1 Pro. Additionally, Adobe has released a new generation of its proprietary Firefly model. In the coming months, the company plans to integrate models from other partners such as fal.ai, Luma, and Runway.
According to Ely Greenfield, Adobe’s Chief Technology Officer for Digital Media, while many users prefer Adobe’s own Firefly models due to their commercial safety, others who are in the ideation phase of their projects are interested in experimenting with different models. “We’re offering that choice to our users,” Greenfield stated.
Content generated in Firefly can be easily transferred to other Adobe apps like Photoshop with just a few clicks. Adobe also noted that users will be able to pay for third-party model usage through the same credit system used for Adobe’s own models, though the company did not disclose how revenue would be shared with third-party providers.
This move is seen as part of Adobe’s broader strategy to stay competitive in the AI space and make its creative tools more flexible and powerful for users.
