Airlines Across Several Countries Cancel and Delay Flights Due to Airbus A320 Software Issue

Airlines in the United States, Japan, Australia, France, Colombia, Kazakhstan, and several other countries have cancelled or delayed dozens of flights scheduled for September 29–30, 2025, according to media reports.

Air France, American Airlines, Australian low-cost carrier Jetstar, Colombia’s Avianca, Japan’s All Nippon Airways, as well as Kazakhstan’s Air Astana and FlyArystan, all confirmed disruptions. The carriers explained that the measures were necessary due to urgent software updates required for Airbus A320 family aircraft.

On November 28, 2025, Airbus announced that A320 aircraft may experience control system malfunctions caused by intense solar radiation. The issue was identified during the investigation of an incident in October 2025, when a JetBlue Airways flight from Cancun (Mexico) to Newark (New Jersey, USA) suddenly lost altitude and was forced to make an emergency landing.

Airbus has recalled around 6,000 aircraft for software updates. According to Bloomberg, approximately 1,000 of them will also require hardware replacement. Some airlines, in order to maintain flight schedules, have reverted to a previous version of the software.

Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) stated after a “preliminary analysis” that the identified vulnerability in Airbus A320 aircraft would not affect Russian carriers. A source in the aviation sector explained to RBC that Russian airlines have not updated their aviation software since 2022.
