Uzbekistan has reached a preliminary agreement with Amazon and plans to provide high-speed internet services via satellite within the framework of the Kuiper Project. This was reported by the Ministry of Digital Development of Uzbekistan.
As part of a US business mission, company representatives visited the country and held talks with Minister Sherzod Shermatov on the development of broadband internet and digital infrastructure. During the meeting, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Amazon Kuiper Commercial Services and the ministry.
Amazon Kuiper was introduced in 2019 to provide broadband internet throughout the world, including in unregistered and remote regions. The service speed can increase from 400 Mbit/s to 1 Gbit/s. 12 ground stations will be used to operate the network, according to the plan.
The launch of Kuiper satellite internet in Uzbekistan will improve the quality of digital services and provide high-speed internet in remote regions.
It should be noted that SpaceX's Starlink satellite internet is already operating in neighboring Kazakhstan.
