The Indonesian Financial Services Authority (OJK) said that frauds committed through artificial intelligence (AI) caused financial losses of US$465.6 million from November 2024 to November 2025.
The most common methods include criminals using AI to imitate the voices and faces of victims, as well as impersonating family members and friends to convince people to send money.
As of August 2025, the OJK had received more than 70,000 AI-related fraud reports. The Indonesian Anti-Fraud Center, which has been operating since November 2024, has so far recorded 343,402 fraud reports and blocked 106,222 bank accounts.
The OJK's Satgas PASTI operation team has shut down hundreds of illegal financial activities, including 611 illegal online lending companies and 69 fraudulent investment schemes. From 2017 to November 2025, the task force has dismantled 14,005 illegal financial institutions in Indonesia.
OJK urges the public to be vigilant about unusual requests for money, protect personal information, and be wary of suspicious voice or video messages from familiar contacts.
Relevant agencies are collaborating with other agencies to strengthen monitoring and enforcement measures against digital financial crimes.
