According to a report by analytics firm Appfigures, the ChatGPT mobile app has surpassed $3 billion in global user spending this week. This figure represents total spending across iOS and Android since the app’s launch in May 2023.
Notably, the majority of this amount comes from 2025. This year alone, users have spent approximately $2.48 billion on the app, representing a 408% increase compared to $487 million in 2024. In its first year, 2023, user spending totaled just $42.9 million.
With this rapid growth, ChatGPT has significantly outpaced other popular platforms. To reach the $3 billion milestone, ChatGPT needed only 31 months, whereas TikTok took 58 months, Disney+ required 42 months, and HBO Max took 46 months to achieve the same result.
Among other competitors in the AI space, only xAI’s Grok app has come close to ChatGPT in terms of revenue growth dynamics.
Currently, most of the revenue comes from the $20-per-month Plus subscription and the $200-per-month Pro plan. However, the company aims to generate additional revenue in the future through advertising and a new app marketplace.
