Snake-like robots have been deployed in China to monitor power grids. These robots, which move along power lines, detect damaged cables, worn parts and abnormal temperature changes using cameras and sensors on them.
The system implemented in Yunnan province has already inspected more than 130 kilometers of power lines. According to reports, the robots work three times more efficiently than traditional human inspections.
The main advantage of robotic snakes is that, unlike drones, they move directly over power lines. This allows them to operate in restricted areas near airports.
Chinese energy companies aim to increase the safety of power grids and detect possible malfunctions in advance by using robotic snakes, robotic dogs and drones.
