Chinese company to build 300 MW data center in Uzbekistan

China's LinkWise Data Intelligence is taking steps to build two large-scale data centers, each with a capacity of 300 megawatts, in Uzbekistan’s Bukhara and Surkhandarya regions. This initiative marks a new phase in the growing technological cooperation between China and Uzbekistan and aligns closely with the Uzbek government’s green economy and digital development strategy.

As part of the project, LinkWise Data Intelligence is collaborating with China Electronics Technology Development Corporation and Shanghai Oriental Credits Industrial Development Co., in partnership with Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Digital Technologies. The project, enabled by a signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), will result in the construction of Modular Intelligent Computing Centers (MICCs) that provide advanced computing power in the field of artificial intelligence.

In addition to strengthening the region’s digital infrastructure, the data centers are significant for their application of green technologies. In line with Uzbekistan’s goal of reaching a 30% share of renewable energy in its energy mix by 2030, the facilities will primarily source power from solar and wind energy plants.

This endeavor also reinforces the technological dimension of China’s Belt and Road Initiative in Central Asia. In recent months, there has been a notable increase in Chinese investments flowing into Uzbekistan, with plans underway for numerous projects across technology, agriculture, mining, and industry in Bukhara and Surkhandarya.

Experts note that the data centers being built by LinkWise are not only critical technical infrastructure but also carry strategic significance for the region’s digital transformation and the development of artificial intelligence technologies. The successful implementation of the project is expected to contribute to workforce development, job creation, and improvements in the quality of digital services.

Against this backdrop, Uzbekistan’s aspiration to become a regional digital hub is becoming increasingly realistic. Currently, technical and legal aspects of the project are being finalized, with initial phases expected to launch in the coming months.
