Claude Code, an AI-powered programming tool, has helped fix a screen freezing issue that has been observed on laptops equipped with AMD Radeon graphics for many years.

According to Phoronix, Linux kernel developers are close to fixing a bug that has existed since 2017 and has caused numerous complaints from users. The problem was mainly observed on devices with Ryzen processors, such as the Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen1 and the Framework Laptop 13.

The error usually occurs after the device has been running for a long time and has woken up several times. As a result, both the internal display and the external monitor stop responding, and the system can only be restarted by force.

Experts used the Claude Code tool to determine the cause of the problem. The AI analyzed bug reports collected over the years and code changes and showed that the problem may be related to a synchronization error when exiting the PSR (Panel Self Refresh) mode, a power-saving technology.

The new fixes being developed rebuild the image processing mechanism in the relevant part of the graphics driver and are expected to completely eliminate the problem.
