Musk participated online in an event organized by WELT Group, a German media company owned by Axel Springer. While discussing the sale of TikTok, he emphasized that he was not interested in acquiring the social media platform.
A few weeks ago, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Musk was willing to buy TikTok. After this statement, Musk's name appeared as one of the potential buyers. However, Musk clarified that he had not made any offer to acquire TikTok. He also mentioned that he did not personally use TikTok and was not familiar with its format. "If I had a TikTok, I wouldn't even know what to do with it. I'm not interested in buying TikTok. Acquiring companies is a rare thing for me," he said.
Musk also stated that acquiring Twitter (now X) was an unusual thing for him, and he preferred building something from scratch rather than buying a company.
It is worth recalling that TikTok was banned a day before Trump took office due to national security concerns. The platform was closed for about 12 hours and was reopened on January 20, following Trump’s decision. Trump had said that a joint venture would be established in the U.S. and that the country would own half of TikTok. Since then, proposals for TikTok had been received, and Trump was hopeful about selling the platform to Musk.
