Tesla has officially entered one of the world’s largest automotive markets — India — marking a major milestone nearly nine years after CEO Elon Musk first hinted at the company’s entry in April 2016. The electric vehicle (EV) giant has opened its first showroom, referred to as an "Experience Center," in Mumbai.
Located in Maker Maxity Mall at the Bandra Kurla Complex — Mumbai’s central business district — the 4,000-square-foot showroom features the Model Y in two versions: Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and Long-Range RWD. Both models are imported from Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory.
Pricing for the Tesla Model Y in India:
- Model Y RWD: ₹59,89,000 (approximately $68,000)
- Model Y Long-Range RWD: ₹67,89,000 (approximately $79,000)
- Full Self-Driving Add-on: ₹600,000 (approximately $7,000)
Indian customers can now place orders for registration in Delhi, Gurugram, and Mumbai by paying a non-refundable deposit of ₹22,220 (around $260). Delivery schedules are as follows:
- RWD model: Expected in Q3 2025
- Long-Range RWD model: Expected in Q4 2025
Ahead of the official rollouts, Tesla plans to establish four charging stations — a mix of Superchargers and destination chargers — in both Mumbai and Delhi. The company has also announced plans to open a second retail location in Delhi later this month as part of its broader expansion in India.
Tesla also aims to begin importing vehicles from its Berlin facility once the India-European Union free trade agreement is signed.
