Elon Musk announced these vague plans on the social network X (formerly Twitter), which he acquired in October 2022 and is currently facing a loss of users. Musk said that "many game studios are owned by large corporations," and that his company xAI will open a game studio and that its goal is to "make games great again."
xAI says it is working on artificial intelligence to "accelerate human scientific discovery and advance a shared understanding of the universe." The company is best known for its ChatGPT-like bot called Grok, which is available to X Premium subscribers. Elon Musk founded xAI in March 2023.
There remains uncertainty about Elon Musk's experience in the game industry. While his expertise in game design and management is not well-known, he has been vocal about his opinions on the subject in the past. For example, he was criticized for creating one of the worst game builds in Elden Ring and for playing games to get to the top, which was considered questionable in Diablo 4.
Musk’s initiatives come as he continues to build a close relationship with US President-elect Donald Trump. Trump has been known in the past to support his allies’ businesses and target their rivals. As such, those interested in the gaming industry will have to keep an eye on Musk’s future plans.
