Billionaire Elon Musk Admits DOGE Involvement Makes Managing His Businesses Difficult. In an interview with Fox host Larry Kudlow, billionaire Elon Musk admitted that his participation in Donald Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) initiative, aimed at reducing federal spending, has made it difficult for him to manage his businesses.
“How do you manage your other businesses?” Kudlow asked.
“With great difficulty. Frankly, I can’t believe I’m here,” Musk replied.
DOGE and Musk have been criticized for making excessive promises about government spending cuts without delivering real results. Experts say that DOGE’s reports on financial savings are exaggerated and inaccurate.
Additionally, cybersecurity experts warn that DOGE has put the U.S. data and computing infrastructure at risk. Allegedly, some DOGE staffers, who lack experience with government systems, have accessed agency data through insecure means and transferred it to unprotected servers.
While Musk claims that working with DOGE has been exhausting, some critics accuse him of using the initiative to advance his business interests.
DOGE has already limited the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), weakening oversight of X’s planned virtual wallet service. It has also reduced staff at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), weakening investigations into Tesla’s autopilot technology. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has dismissed employees, leading to fewer safety regulations affecting SpaceX. Additionally, DOGE has pushed for significant staffing cuts at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)—one of Musk’s long-standing adversaries.
When Kudlow asked, "Will you extend your involvement in DOGE for another year?", Musk replied, "Yes."
“We are actually getting things done instead of just writing reports. Reports don’t mean anything; what matters is taking action,” Musk added
