Emirates to offer Starlink internet to passengers on planes

Emirates plans to equip the vast majority of its aircraft with Starlink satellite internet over the next two years. According to the company, passengers will be able to use high-speed and completely free internet during flights.

As part of the project, 232 aircraft — Boeing 777 and Airbus A380 — will be modernized with a new generation connectivity system. The first updated Boeing 777 has already been demonstrated at the Dubai Airshow.

Installation of equipment on Airbus A380 aircraft will begin in February 2026. Emirates plans to modernize about 14 aircraft per month.

Free Starlink internet will be available in all classes of service. Passengers will be able to connect to the network both through on-board systems and through personal devices.

The new connectivity system supports functions such as video calls, high-quality video streaming and downloading large files, which will significantly improve the possibilities for work and entertainment during the flight.

Emirates also updated its security rules in August this year. According to the new rules, passengers can only carry one external battery (powerbank), but it is prohibited to use it to charge devices during the flight.
